WHY I PLAY THE BLUES
Artıst Statement
''I don't play the blues because I was born where it began.
I play the blues because it found something in me long before I understood it.
To me, the blues has never been about geography.
It has never belonged to one country, one language, or one generation.
It belongs to anyone who has ever suffered, searched for meaning, questioned the world around them, or refused to lose themselves.
I grew up in Türkiye, surrounded by a culture, history, and perspective very different from the place where the blues was born.
I don't try to imitate that world.
I try to speak honestly from my own.
Every road I've walked, every conversation, every loss, every question, every silence becomes part of my music.
I don't write music to tell people what to think.
They are written so that, for a moment, someone might remember who they are.
I believe the modern world constantly asks us to become something else:
Faster,
Louder,
More successful,
More acceptable.
The blues reminds me to remain human.
That is why I write.
That is why I play.
Not to recreate the past,
but to carry its truth into the present.
If my music leaves anything behind, I hope it isn't just a guitar solo.
I hope it leaves a question.
A memory.
Or a small spark that reminds someone to hold on to what truly matters.
Because the greatest songs don't change the world.
They change the people who live in it.''
— Can Bayoğlu
Quotes
“Over the last six years, the Blues have experienced a revival all over the world. For example, there is a young Turkish man in his twenties called Can Bayoglu who loves the Texas Blues and I think he is part of that revival, just like Harrell Davenport in Mississippi or Stephen Hull in Wisconsin.” - GravelRoad Magazine
“Now there is yet another new star in the firmament. His name is Can Bayoğlu and 'I Belong To The Blues' is his debut album. Eight songs that prove the adage that not much is good, but good is a lot! In a few years, when Can is a global star, you can say that you are one of the lucky owners of his debut album!” - Harry Radstake
“We admire Can Bayoglu, he is one of the best of the new Blues generation worldwide. His live performances are mind blowing. I follow his career with enthusiasm.” - Adrian Egli
“Can speaks with the calm of someone who understood early on that music is not a hobby, but a way to survive, to understand, and to tell. Perhaps that is the strange and interesting thing about him: his age automatically places him in the ranks of young talents, but his attitude is that of someone who has been on the road much longer. A young man with an old soul.” - Marijn Ooijman
“A pleasant introduction and a commendable debut album 'I Belong to the Blues' that certainly leaves you wanting more.” - Aad Sneep
